In the evening, confined to bed for a while before furniture us, used to put down a bag of hot water: a bag of thick rubber, flat, covered with a wool cover that retains heat and protects furniture against possible burns (still sale).
A more modest version of this invention was to fill a glass bottle with airtight lid (the lemonade went very well and there were all the beds in the house without having to spend money).
