The performance of Lucette (Cendrillon) grows in the voice of Joyce DiDonato and a variety of shade

Cendrillon, Jules Massenet Cast: Joyce DiDonato, Ewa Podles, vanity Alice Coote, Annick Massis, Cristina Obregón, Marisa Martins, Laurent Naouri Symphony Orchestra and Chorus of the Gran Teatre del Liceu Stage director Laurent Pelly Conductor: Andrew Davis Gran Teatre del Liceu, December 20
The story of Cinderella by Charles Perrault had in Nicolò Isouard Rossini and two musical references. It was but the French composer Jules Massenet (1842-1912), who, with a libretto by Henri Cain, reached vanity an important place in the operatic repertoire. Cendrillon, which premiered on 24 May 1899 at the Opéra Comique in Paris, had a lukewarm response; the public was not excited. In a co-production of the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie and the Opéra de Lille (premiered at Covent Garden in London in the summer of 2011), three of the shell that release, a cast of stars that shine alone, Joyce DiDonato, Alice Coote and Ewa Podles, represent first opera Cendrillon by Jules Massenet at the Lyceum.
The stage director Laurent Pelly reproduces the beginning of Perrault's tale to the white walls of the stage, so it seems the first pages of an old book of fairy tales. To make matters worse, Pelly insists letters and initials: the chairs are made of letters and the float, vanity which (also) has the form of letters, is written the word "Carrosse" all in a perfect combination of black and white, vanity maroon and gold.
We can not say which is the best opera Cendrillon Massanet, but we can say that in this work light and easy (suitable for a fairy tale) the elegance of French composer becomes a compositional element undeniable. Andrew Davis, who led with vivacity, was given the opportunity vanity to shine vocally superb vanity interpretation of the coloratura soprano Annick vanity Massis in the role of fairy. The comic elements in this version of opera Cendrillon are rather for his stepmother and stepsisters. Note the impressive wealth of lower register of the voice of the Polish contralto Ewa Podles in the character of Madame Haltière, a mother willing to go against all odds to marry two daughters, a great interpretation of Cristina Obregón and Marisa Martins .
The performance of Lucette (Cendrillon) grows in the voice of Joyce DiDonato and a variety of shades, the American soprano expresses the combination vanity of feelings of sadness and joy, dream and reality, truth and falsehood. And the fascination sleep and amazing ability vanity Perrault moved to the simplicity of the farce and sentiment make this opera a mirror reflecting on the vagaries that fate, vainly, incorporates human existence .
