With Dans la maison Ozone delivers despite the dreadful topper end, one of his most haunting films. And that's not just unlikely sexy accent that Kristin Scott Thomas speaks the language topper of Molière.
In a hyper-stylized camerawork Ozone pulls you inside the world of Germain Germain, a slightly topper bitter literary topper history teacher in a secondary school. His life is as empty and useless as the account book of the art gallery of his wife, the young Claude hands him a first essay in which he describes a visit to the home of a classmate sarcastic-voyeuristic way.
Nothing, not even the "typical smell of a woman of the middle class' not escaped his fillet knife. Germain stimulates him to go, not only writing but also indirectly with his voyeurism, that more frightening form when he takes to bring the boy. Entirely justified from literary-dramatic point of view, turn on more drama and conflict in the story While the young Claude dig themselves deeper and deeper into the family and seduces even the lady of the house, we see on the sidelines of the marriage Germain and his wife in Woody Allen-like manner disintegrate into razor-sharp dialogue that is as painful as it is brilliant. The cup-under-going torque is an almost embarrassing illustration of Villaine satire on the middle topper class that Claude, much less subtle about the lives of the ordinary family Rapha writes.
That Ozone masterful in holding (never unfulfilled) voltage we already topper know from Sous le sable and Swimming Pool, but here he surpasses himself occasionally. The photography is stunning, the monochrome backgrounds which Claude gets his literature classes, the gray bedroom scenes at home Germain and playful, seeking tone of the camera work which he displays Claude's stillistisch changing stories.
Here and there, the film looks become just a little too exaggerated, the more Germain engages the texts of Claude, the Ozone realism of his movie-strips, but the characters appear in scenes where they can not be present, I want to within the conventions take trouble of this story. Unfortunately, the film really comes later from the curve: the comic relief with lesson jumelles does the film earlier on in the art gallery and the totally implausible end, where the director takes the viewer like a child by the hand and make him a puppet-like apartment building converts a moment to summarize the message along - filmmakers finally tell voyeuristic stories - is an unnecessary uitlachspiegel. The break with the style biefstukbakkende lost in Bullhead worked wonderfully, but here completely remove the comedy perfectly built up tension down.
Also the terminus which he leaves behind his two main characters, unconvincing; Ozone, like Claude in his story, explored different endings to explain, but never found the right climax. Built up tension on the taut down Perhaps a total anti-climax was the only real alternative; I personally would have preferred that the film in chilly, gray color was dead on the dull drabness of everyday life, and that this fog of boredom the characters slowly suffocated. That would have been a credible end in any case, and in a way also a much more dramatic. Lick syrup which is now at the last minute, to my taste a little too soggy for a movie that the first hour feels like an icy thriller.
Nevertheless: rush to the cinema. Brilliant dialogues, viciously sharp performances and staggering beautiful eyes of Miss Scott Thomas. Or read the novel Le Clézio once after, which is the basis of the scenario. Wondering if that is so expires.
